"The Ripper" Paul Burchill is the most dangerous man in wrestling today. A unique, breathtaking move set, combined with muscular power, epic in-ring prowess and sheer intensity ensures that he can stand tall against anyone foolish enough to challenge him in the squared circle.

Cunning, quick to strike, and raring to take down anybody who dares to stand in his way . . . The Ripper is unleashed and more dangerous than ever.

The Ripper in WWE: Heroes and Villains

Burchill achieved worldwide acclaim and gained much notoriety through his dominance of World Wrestling Entertainment’s ECW brand. After months spent habitually annihilating lesser opponents on ECW, The Ripper became embroiled in a rivalry with backstage interviewer Gregory Helms, who posed as masked wrestler "The Hurricane".

After several hard-fisted bouts and one or two vicious assaults, the two finally agreed to settle the matter in a win or lose-all match. On November 17th Hurricane’s mask and identity were put up against Burchill's ECW career. In a travesty of justice resulting from sheer luck on the side of his opponent and not a little partiality on the side of the referee, Burchill was declared the loser of the match. The following week on ECW, a formidable masked man referring to himself only as "The Ripper" appeared backstage and demanded a contract, which could be gained only by defeating his nemesis once and for all. However, in a display of underhand tactics that served only to reinforce the fact that the Hurricane was by far the inferior wrestler, the cowardly "superhero" unmasked The Ripper, causing enough of a distraction for the green parasite to score the pinfall over the exceptional Englishman.

On this day, ECW lost its finest wrestler. On this day, as one door closed, another one opened. On this day . . . The Ripper was reborn.
